Shoigu instructed to increase the capacity of the floating hospital "Irtysh"

Number of beds on the hospital ship "Irtysh" will be increased for possible reception of patients with the coronavirus. The corresponding order was given by the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu.
The defense Minister instructed to increase the number of seats on the hospital ship "Irtysh" in order to relieve hospitals of the military establishment in the far East. This upgrade should be performed within 10 days.

As explained by the Minister, the need to expand the floating hospital came on the background of the threat of the spread of coronavirus. The vessel is expected uninfected patients for the "unloading medical institutions of the Ministry of defence in the far East and prepare for possible reception of patients with signs of coronavirus infection".

"Irtysh" was developed in the Polish design office "Prorem", and built at the shipyard "Adolf manor" in the town of Szczecin. Laid down 25 November 1988. Launched on 6 July 1989. Commissioned 31 July 1990. Belongs to the category of auxiliary non-combat fleet. In 2016-2017, the ship was upgraded with the installation of modern medical equipment.
It Also reported that the construction of a new infectious center of the defense Ministry, which is being built in Kamchatka, is ahead of schedule. The building is constructed based on the probability of a nine-point earthquake. The institution will be provided with modern medical equipment, its staff will include about 100 people, including 30 doctors of different specialties.
