Indonesian Harimau medium tank went into production
In Indonesia started a serial production of first batch of medium tanks tanks Harimau ("Tiger") Turkish-Indonesian development. The corresponding contract was signed by the Ministry of national defense and the public defense industrial Association PT Pindad , reports blog bmpd.
The Number of tanks in the first batch was not disclosed, but we know that it will be 18-20 tanks (the final number will be determined later depending on the cost of equipment) which should be handed over to the army for 3 years.
Harimau ("Tiger") is a joint development of the Turkish company FNSS Savunma Sistemleri and Indonesian PT Pindad specifically for the Indonesian army.
Body and chassis tank is fully established by the Turkish FNSS and turret - steel double Belgian CMI Defence Cockerill 3105 is equipped with a muzzle brake of the 105-mm rifled gun CMI Defence CT-CV 105HP and coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun. The gun is equipped with automatic loading drum for 12 shots, 30 shots are laying in the machine. The gun is able to fire standard 105-mm tank ammunition NATO. The contribution of the Indonesian parties was to Finance the project, while Assembly of the tanks will be performed in Indonesia the company PT Pindad.
The weight of the tank 32-35 tons (definitely not revealed), the crew of three people. The machine is able to overcome Ford depth of 1.2 m, the trench width of 2 m and a wall height of 0.9 m.
Booking hull and turret provides protection against armor-piercing bullets 14.5 mm with 200 m, but can be strengthened to protection from the 25-mm gun projectile.
In the first phase the Indonesian army plans to buy 44 of the tank Harimau. In total it is planned to supply the armed forces with up to 400 tanks.
